Frequently Asked Questions About Fitness Competitions

What is FitFeud?

FitFeud is a web site that lets companies organize online weight loss and fitness competitions, or FitFeuds, that motivate employees to be healthier.

Why competition?

At heart, most Americans know the path to a healthier lifestyle: eat better, exercise more. The tough part is the motivation to do so. By harnessing our innate competitive nature, the will to win (or not to lose) serves as the ultimate motivating factor.

How do the competitions work?

FitFeud is a flexible system that can be implemented in a variety of ways. That said, at its core, it works like this: Employees login to a private FitFeud site, join a league, and then compete with others based on weight loss or other fitness metric (number of steps, push-ups, etc.). Each week, all competitors are sent reminders via email to check-in online.

Are actual weights visible to other competitors?

We know weight can be a sensitive issue for some. For others, though, having their competitors know their weight is motivating. FitFeud allows administrators to control whether actual weights are shown to other competitors. Regardless, no one outside of the competition will ever be able to see anyone’s weight.

How do we know people are being honest?

FitFeud relies on the honor system, so each person is responsible for tracking their progress honestly. In some cases, organizations find it helpful to do some check-in's in person (or at least the first and last check-in).

How long are FitFeuds?

Most people find that 12 weeks is a good timeframe, but they can be as long as you want them to be.

Besides weight loss, what are some other types of FitFeuds?

In addition to our popular weight loss feuds, your organization can compete on a number of fitness metrics. This includes:

  • Steps taken (often tracked with pedometers)
  • Miles walked/run
  • Visits to the gym
  • Nutritional decisions(number of salads, fruit, etc. eaten)

And just about any other metric you'd like to see. Let us know we'll find a way to make it work.

How much does it cost?

Depending on how you implement FitFeud, pricing can be based on a per-employee per-month model or can be an annual license. Once we have a chance to know your organization and how you want to use FitFeud, we can provide you with specific numbers.

We already offer our employees a wellness program. Why should I use FitFeud?

FitFeud doesn’t need to replace any existing wellness offerings you currently have in place. In fact, implementing FitFeud can enhance existing programs by generating interest, increasing participation and success rates, thus improving the overall ROI of all your wellness offerings.

How do we make sure our FitFeud is a success?

Even the most well intentioned wellness programs can be hindered by low participations rates. Once a FitFeud starts we've found participation levels to be high, however it is also important that awareness and enthusiasm of the competition is created before the start date. A few ways we've found successful:

  • Hosting your FitFeud in a team vs. team format - office vs. office, department vs. department, floor vs. floor, etc.
  • Offer an incentive - An extra day or two off, a new laptop, or plain old cash.
  • Executive participation - Having a few higher-ups in your FitFeud can go a long way towards leading by example.

How can we promote our competition prior kick-off?

Our platform allows administrators to send mass-invites out to some or all of your workforce to let them know about the upcoming competition. Additionally, many organizations will use their intranet, or company newsletter to raise awareness. If you think your staff needs an even bigger push, we offer custom posters, flyers and table tents that you can use to promote within your office.
